Frequently Asked Questions

What is pure maple syrup? Pure maple syrup is made from one ingredient, the sap of sugar maple trees. In early spring, when daytime temperatures climb above freezing but nights still drop below 32°F, sap begins to flow. That sap is collected and boiled down in an evaporator until the sugar concentration reaches 66.9%, the density standard for finished maple syrup. It takes roughly 44 gallons of sap to produce a single gallon of syrup. Nothing is added — no preservatives, no coloring, no artificial flavors. If the label says pure maple syrup, that's all it should be.

What do the grades mean? All four grades are Grade A and equal in quality, the difference is color and flavor intensity. Golden Delicate is made early in the season when sap runs lightest. As the season progresses and temperatures warm, the syrup naturally deepens in color and flavor through Amber Rich, Dark Robust, and finally Very Dark Strong. No grade is better than another; it's simply a matter of personal taste.

Why Vermont? Vermont produces more maple syrup than any other state, and has for over a century. The combination of cold winters, reliable spring freeze-thaw cycles, and dense stands of sugar maples creates ideal sugaring conditions. Vermont also enforces some of the strictest maple purity and grading standards in the country, so when you buy Vermont maple syrup, you know exactly what you're getting.
